Forty-two polling places about to close at 7:30 p.m.
As Town of Cary and City of Durham municipal elections are wrapping up this evening, the Wake County Board of Elections team is sharing the latest updates and information about how results will roll out for the remainder of Election night.
Today, the Town of Cary held its General Election for Mayor, one At-Large Council seat, a Council seat serving District B and a Council seat serving District D. It’s not yet determined if a runoff will be needed, but it would be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
The City of Durham held its Nonpartisan Primary for Mayor and three City Council At-Large seats today. The top two vote-getters for Mayor and the top six vote-getters for Council will advance to the General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
“The first elections of the 2023-2024 season have gone incredibly smooth, with more than 5,000 people taking advantage of Early Voting and complying with the new requirement to show a photo ID before voting,” said Wake County Elections Director Olivia McCall. “We still have work to do tonight as our Precinct Officials close the polls and results are uploaded.”
Today at its 2 p.m. meeting, the Board of Elections accepted the results of Early Voting, which was available over 15 days at two locations, the Board of Elections Operations Center in Raleigh and the Herbert C. Young Community Center in Cary. The number of Early Voting ballots tabulated at the meeting was 5,438 and the number of Absentee By Mail ballots recorded so far was 243.
After the close of polls, the Board of Elections will begin posting the unofficial results of those 5,681 Early Voting and Absentee By Mail ballots on the NCSBE results page. This link will show results for ONLY precincts within Wake County. Results will also be updated at the top of ReadytoVote.com.
Unofficial results from the 42 precincts that were open on Election Day are expected to begin posting by 10 p.m. It may take an hour or more after 10 p.m. for all tabulators to be returned and for the full unofficial results to be posted.
