From Our Home to Yours: Celebrate the Season with Wake County Public Libraries

Get ready for a season of warmth, cheer and inspiration with Wake County Public Libraries’ "Home for the Holidays" virtual series. These six programs are designed to inspire holiday cheer and help people prepare for a festive season. From organization and time management to kitchen tips and tricks, there’s something for everyone.

Event Lineup:

  • Get Organized for the Holidays
    Wednesday, Nov. 6 | 6:30–7:30 p.m.
    Join Jenna Blackburn, former professional organizer-turned library assistant, to discover how to master the art of holiday organization. Blackburn will provide expert tips on organization and time management for common holiday activities, including gifting, hosting, baking and more.
  • Ask the Chef(s) Holiday Edition: ‘Tis the Season(ing)
    Wednesday, Nov. 13 | 6:30–7:30 p.m.
    Join seasoned chefs Jake (our resident librarian/chef) and Jeremy Law (chef/former owner of SoCo Farm and Food in Wilson) for an engaging holiday-themed session that goes beyond traditional recipes.
  • The Great British Baking Tour: Holiday Edition
    Tuesday, Nov. 19 | 6:30–7:30 p.m.
    Join Claire Evans, a UK travel/relocation consultant and former UK resident, for a culinary journey through the UK inspired by the "The Great British Baking Show" TV series aired on PBS. Discover the art of making a proper cup of tea, explore regional specialties and learn their origins across the UK.
  • Knife Skills – Hone for the Holidays
    Monday, Nov. 25 | 6:30–7:30 p.m.
    Jake Green will show you a selection of proper techniques to speed up and simplify your food prep! He'll feature basic knife cuts and show how they work in traditional holiday recipes, as well as demonstrate the easy way to carve your Thanksgiving turkey.
  • Bake Your Way Through the Holidays with The Bread Monk
    Monday, Dec. 2 | 6:30–7:30 p.m.
    Benedictine monk and PBS TV host Father Dominic Garramone will present a live virtual program with recipes for three holidays, including Hanukkah Jelly Donuts, Fruited Sweet Potato Bread for Kwanzaa and a braided sweet bread centerpiece for your Christmas buffet that doubles as dessert!
  • Mid-Century Christmas: Fads and Fun from 1945 to 1970
    Monday, Dec. 9 | 6:30–7:30 p.m.
    Historian Leslie Goddard explores this optimistic era in a new illustrated lecture, using photographs, advertisements, greeting cards and catalogs to explore why this era was a turning point for how we celebrate the holidays.
