Citizen Science Thursday
Volunteer your time with our monitoring and citizen science projects! Tasks will vary depending on what needs attention and may include: cleaning or repairing habitat boxes or installing new ones, monitoring our current boxes or assisting with other relevant tasks. Come prepared to learn and work as you help manage our natural resources. This volunteer opportunity is free but registration is required through our online system so we know who to expect and can plan accordingly.
Dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves and a water bottle. Meet at the Cypress Shelter unless instructed otherwise. For ages 10 and up.
Roadside and Shoreline Clean Ups
Periodically throughout the year, we offer litter pick up opportunities. We focus our efforts on roadside clean ups along New Hill Holleman Road in the vicinity of the park and the many miles of shoreline within the park to prevent litter from reaching Harris Lake. The minimum age is 10 for roadside clean up and 6 for shoreline clean up.
Triangle Off Road Cyclists (TORC) Workdays
Are you a mountain biker interested in giving back? Please join us for our mountain bike trail workdays! Bring good gloves and work shoes. All tools will be provided. Workdays are typically 3 hours in length. Please see upcoming dates and RSVP on the TORC meet-up page.
Special Events
Our special events (Longleaf Festival and Haunting at Harris) would not be possible without the help of many dedicated volunteers. Special event volunteer tasks primarily involve assistance with games, crafts, activities, event surveys, set up and clean up.
See the Major Events page for dates and relevant information.
Stewardship Opportunities
Park staff relies on dedicated volunteers to help maintain the beauty and safety of Harris Lake County Park for its visitors and wildlife. Work may involve invasive species removal, assistance in our Educational Garden, or other projects as requested.
