Library Greeter Volunteer
The Library Greeter is an energetic and customer-service-oriented person who helps create a welcoming atmosphere by greeting library patrons and helping them find their bearings as they enter the library.
Minimum age: 18 years old
Time commitment: Minimum of 2 hours per week
Responsibilities may include:
- Greet patrons at the library entrance
- Assist with basic directional information
- Direct patrons to a service desk for additional assistance
Library Support Volunteer
Library Support Volunteers work directly with library staff to help the library make an attractive, relevant, current collection of materials easily accessible to our community.
Minimum age: 16 years old
Time Commitment: A minimum of 2 hours per week. Schedule needs may vary by location.
Responsibilities may include:
- Pull List: Working from a printed list, search shelves in the library for items, gather them together, and give them to a staff member to process
- Collection Maintenance Lists: Working from a printed list, which may include duplicates, condition review and relevancy, search shelves in the library for items and give them to a staff member to process
- Shelf Maintenance: Includes shelf reading, straightening and shifting
Technology Support Volunteer
Technology Support Volunteers are energetic individuals with intermediate to advanced computer skills they use to help library patrons use the public PCs and printers.
Minimum age: 18 years old
Time commitment: Minimum of 2 hours per week
Responsibilities may include:
- Help patrons sign-in to public PCs
- Provide basic assistance with public printers
- Basic troubleshooting for email, Microsoft and Google
- Refer hardware or advanced technology issues to library staff
Chess Club Support Volunteer
The Chess Club Support Volunteer helps facilitate chess clubs and offers instructions and basic guidance to help community members learn or improve their chess playing skills.
Minimum age: 18 years old
Time commitment: Minimum of 2 hours per month
Responsibilities may include:
- Setting up and taking down board sets
- Teaching and demonstrating basic game rules and instructions
- Organizing, monitoring and assisting with gameplay
- Communicating with the Volunteer Coordinator and the Volunteer Resource Librarian
English Conversation Group Volunteer
The English Conversation Group Volunteer helps to organize conversation groups for new learners of English interested in improving their fluency and confidence in speaking English and navigating everyday life. The volunteers will use questions and activities on practical topics connected to daily life to encourage conversation, practice pronunciation, learn new vocabulary and connect with others.
Minimum age: 18 years old
Time commitment: 4 hours minimum per month
Responsibilities may include:
- Plan and lead small group discussions and activities for adults learning English
- Use conversation starter sheets
- Ensure participants have equal opportunity to answer questions
Knitting & Crocheting Club Support Volunteer
The Knitting & Crocheting Club Support Volunteer helps to facilitate clubs that help community members learn or improve their needlework skills by offering basic instructions and guidance to participants.
Minimum age: 18 years old
Time commitment: Minimum of 2 hours per month
Responsibilities may include:
- Teaching and demonstrating basic knitting or crochet skills
- Organizing, monitoring and assisting with individual or group projects
- Communicating with the Volunteer Coordinator and the Volunteer Resource Librarian
Teen Leadership Corps
Teen Leadership Corps (TLC) offers youth in Grades 6–10 the opportunity to cultivate leadership skills, explore and develop a variety of interests and talents, contribute to the local community, and get to know other teens with similar interests.
Age: 6th–10th graders
Time commitment: 1–2 hours a week
Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with program set-up and tear-down
- Craft prep
- Working with younger children during programs
- Working with other teens to plan library programs
